Hyperthermia proven effective but ignored by American oncologists

This report in Cancer Decisions describes a recent study published in Radiotherapy and Oncology and recalls earlier ones published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and the Lancet that demonstrate outstanding benefits for bladder, cervical and rectal cancer. Hyperthermia is the warming of tissue to enhance localized immune and circulatory vigor. It is now part of standard treatment for cervical cancer in Holland and recommended by the German Cancer Society. Dr. Ralph Moss concludes in this report: “In my opinion, a great many American patients will die needlessly before the cancer establishment wakes up to the fact that hyperthermia is a relatively harmless way of prolonging the lives of many cancer patients.”

U.S. Physicians Overuse Pap Testing

A federally funded survey newly published in the Annals of Internal Medicine reports that only about one fifth of U.S. doctors follow the cervical cancer screening guidelines that have been in place since 2003. Their conclusion: “Primary care physicians’ recommendations for Pap test screening are not consistent with screening guidelines, reflecting overuse of screening.”
